Mums are ‘the glue that hold families together’

mother and daughter relationship advice real women

Is it true that three quarters of adult women would still admit to being a Mummy’s girl?

The majority of us ladies always turns to our mothers in a moral dilemma and would be completely lost without their help and support. We’re more likely to sit down and have a one-to-one with our mum talking about relationship issues, falling out with friends and work stresses, go out shopping or have meals together and natter on the phone for hours each week.

Obviously, millions of women whether they are in their late teens or in their forties would be lost without the support and backing of their mum, we’ve had it since we were kids. Mums hold the family together and it’s only natural that many women feel closer and more emotional with their mother.

Dads on the other hand are sometimes only called on to do the practical DIY stuff like putting up shelves, fix the plumbing and sort out our finances with their honest advice.

I lost my mother in my late twenties.  I remember her every day and miss her terribly.  There’s never be a truer saying in ‘you don’t know what you’ve got until its gone’ which is why I still get very annoyed when I hear people disrespecting their own mothers, whether they’re an adult or a child.

If there can possibly be any upside from losing my Mum, it was that I got the chance to get to know my Dad much better.  He became much more that just ‘Daddy DIY’, ‘Pops Taxis’ or ‘Bank of Father’ and I cherish our refreshed relationship.  It did also help that he married a terrific woman some years later who looks after him well and tolerates me calling her ‘Wicked Stepmother’ even though she isn’t!

Having a solid relationship with both parents can be the key to a having a happy, well-rounded life if you are lucky enough to still have both of them in your life. Being able to rely on your parents whatever age you are is a real advantage and a strong relationship with any parent should always be treasured.

Is your Mum the ‘glue’?  Or has your Dad been promoted?
