Drive of your life this week…

is the Peugeot 207 OXYGO

What is it? The moist fuel efficient and cost busting variant of the Peugeot 207 clan

Who would want one? Any cost conscious lady trying desperately to juggle the ever-tightening purse strings and feels she needs to leave the car in the garage. For with this OXYGO+ version she can now continue to drive whenever she wants and for as long as she wants without having to stop as those petrol stations due to the outstanding fuel consumption this car delivers.

The exhilarating thrill: is the sedate 0-62 in 13.1 seconds that, while being a bit sluggish for a 1.6 litre diesel engine, does mean unnecessary burning of valuable fuel when trying to make a quick getaway from the school gates to get to the shops for those early morning bargains.

Wow factors to make the neighbours go green: sharing many of the same characteristics if not all, this 207 has that beautiful typical Peugeot front styling with a gorgeous set of huge teardrop light clusters, colour coded bumper with deep set integrated fog lights. Then there are colour coded door handles, colour coded electrically operated and heated door mirrors, colour coded body strips with stylish body creases, rear privacy glass, 15 inch steel wheels, and a rather lovely curvaceous rear end complete with a roof spoiler, stunning jewel like light clusters and a colour coded bumper.

On the other hand…the grab handle set in the roof line on the drivers side sticks out too much and kept colliding with my head.

Where would the sunglasses fit? Not is their own special holder but neatly in either of the front cup holders.

Will it take the shopping? With 270 litres of space yes, in small doses that is quite handy in their cost conscious world we are all living in. Any secret purchases can be hidden in the deep two-tiered glovebox.

Helping hands sure make light work with fabulous speed sensitive power steering to ease your way in and out of the parking bays effortlessly, electric front windows, electrically adjustable heated and folding door mirrors plus front fog lights.

Creature Comforts to luxuriate in are manual air conditioning, cruise control, height adjustable steering wheel with remote audio controls, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, a RD4 radio with CD player and Peugeot Connect USB with Bluetooth.

Its most annoying feature: There are no electric switches for the rear windows, just good old-fashioned manual handles. A tad antiquated me thinks.

The quirkiest accessory: has to be the Peugeot Connect Navigation system that is so easy to use and suss out that valuable time for driving is not spent fumbling around trying to fathom out how to turn the thing on in the first instance. A small price to pay at £735.

Avoiding the costly repair shop is all down to ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBFD) plus Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and that all-important life saving device, ESP.

Keeping your precious cargo safe:  With 5 stars for front and side impact protection, 3 stars for pedestrian protection and 4 stars for child protection in the Euro NCAP ratings, this car has safety features on par with models in higher segments. Protecting all occupants is driver and passenger SMART airbags with a passenger deactivation switch, front side airbags plus front and rear curtain airbags. There are height adjustable front head restrains, 3X3 point rear seat belts and 3-point Isofix location mounts. All seats have seatbelts reminders alarms.

Avoiding it being nicked is remote central locking, a rolling code transponder immobiliser, deadlocking and visible VIN Number

Star rating: 5/5 for this is a car that looks the business, gives a great drive and more importantly, is affordable to run thanks to low insurance group, low CO2 emissions and of course, outstanding fuel consumption.

Consider: Either the 3-door variant that is cheaper than the 5-door or possibly the lower trim OXYGO but that does not have a lot of the well-deserved creature comforts us ladies like to luxuriate in.
