At what age do you start to feel invisible?

Apparently, women feel past it at the age of 46.

This is the age when a woman’s self-esteem and confidence in her looks plummet, with two thirds beginning to hate what they see in the mirror – most blaming the fact that they now start to have grey hair, feel uncomfortable in their clothes and have to wear glasses.

Recent research has shown that by the time women reach their mid-fifties, they are less likely to receive glances from strangers in the street or compliments from the other sex and feel ignored by shop assistants and bar staff. But most women agreed that they started to regain their confidence as they hit their 60’s and started to get used to the ageing process and the impact it had on their lifestyle. Thank goodness for that!

But is this true in your experience ladies? After all, women are living longer and looking better than ever before, but it seems when we hit our late 40’s and 50’s, there is a definite period of adjustment both in how we look, how we behave and our confidence levels.

In my 40’s, I am conscious of trying not to look like ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ and how often I have to apply hair dye to cover my greying roots but I can’t say that I feel invisible – not yet anyway.

How has ageing affected you and your confidence?
